How much does it cost to replace a bulb?
The cost of a bulb replacement is made up of the labour and the bulb itself. It depends on the type of bulb – e.g. a conventional incandescent bulb, Halogen, Xenon / HID or LED – and on which light it is, e.g. a headlight, combined brake and rear light, indicator, fog light or number plate light. The make of car also matters, as does how easy and roomy the access to the bulb is. Some bulbs can be changed through a service hatch, sometimes the battery has to be removed, and there are even cases where the bumper has to come off before the bulb can be changed. All of this affects how long the job takes, which, together with the price of the bulb, determines the total cost.
For headlights, combined rear and brake lights and fog lights, we recommend replacing both bulbs so that the lights are equally bright afterwards. Avoid touching the bulbs when fitting them, as marks from skin oils can shorten their life – so always wear gloves when fitting a bulb.

To give you some idea of the cost of bulbs and bulb replacement, here are a few examples.
- Replacing indicator and number plate light bulbs is simple: you pay the minimum charge of 2.781 kr. plus the cost of the bulbs, and simple incandescent bulbs are cheap, usually costing no more than 500 kr.
- Replacing bulbs in headlights, fog lights and combined rear and brake lights costs 2.781 kr. for the simplest job, while for slightly bigger jobs where the bulb is still easy to reach, the labour is 4.172 kr. If the battery has to be removed and refitted to reach the headlight, the labour is 6.953 kr. If a bigger job is needed, e.g. removing and refitting the headlight, the labour is 13.906 kr. These lights mostly use Halogen bulbs, and Halogen bulbs (e.g. H1, H4, H7, H11) cost from 2.000 kr. to 7.000 kr.
- Xenon / HID (High-Intensity Discharge) headlight bulbs (e.g. D1S, D3S) are more expensive, but it is harder to give a price range for them, and the same applies to LED bulbs.
