Windscreen wipers
Wiper blades matter for road safety, and worn-out blades can easily cause serious damage to the windscreen. As wiper blades wear, they stop clearing dirt from the glass properly and start to scratch the windscreen. This reduces the driver's visibility and creates a hazard on the road.
Think safety and be a responsible driver. Let us at MAX1 check your wiper blades, free of charge. If you buy your wipers from us, we'll fit the blades on your car at no extra cost.
Good wiper blades are essential for keeping your windscreen clean. In winter, the windscreen gets splashed with a complex mixture – for example when salt, dust and tar mix with rainwater – and in summer, insects get stuck to the glass as well. When wiper blades deteriorate, they lose the ability to clear this dirt off the windscreen. Instead, it tends to smear across the glass, reducing visibility and making driving less safe. At the same time, there's a greater risk of the blades scratching the windscreen, which reduces visibility even further and can prove costly if the windscreen has to be replaced. Poor wiper blades also increase your use of screenwash, as the tendency is to spray more often and more heavily to solve the problem.

Poor wiper blades – the causes
There can, of course, be many reasons for poor wiper blades. They may have been in use for too long, the last ones you bought may not have been good enough, or perhaps the wipers were left working on a very dirty or icy windscreen. You can extend the life of your wiper blades by cleaning them regularly, and an old household tip says that flat cola works well for this (we pass that one on for what it's worth).
Another option is tar remover (degreaser), although some complain that it isn't kind to the rubber on the blades. Others use de-icer, which can even soften the rubber. Some have used WD-40, and others washing-up liquid. Cleaning won't help, however, if the blades themselves are badly damaged.

The many names for wipers
In everyday Icelandic, people talk about either rúðuþurrkur or þurrkublöð. Some even save themselves a letter and write rúðuþurkur or þurkublöð – which, naturally, we can't recommend. Others still call wipers vinnukonur (‘maids’).
At MAX1 Bílavaktin we welcome everyone, whatever word they use – after all, we offer wipers for all types of car from most of the world's car manufacturers, e.g. Toyota, Volkswagen, VW, Chevrolet, Kia, Skoda, Ford, Honda, Renault, Hyundai, Mercedes Benz, Mazda, Nissan, Suzuki, Subaru, Audi, Citroen, BMW, Volvo, Peugeot, Jaguar, Dacia, Opel, Mitsubishi, Lexus, Isuzu, Porsche, Fiat, Jeep, Dodge, Land Rover, Chrysler and Iveco.
Contact us and let us source and replace your wiper blades.
